7 Ways You Can Support Your School & Students

1.  Support Learning at Home

Create a space at home for homework. It should be a quiet space for regular home learning. Know your teacher’s homework policy and help make sure the deadlines are met. Engage with your child during their homework.

2. Communicate with your Teachers & School

Attend parent-teacher conferences and events at the school. Make time to read the PTA Newsletter on Wednesdays, the weekly Edison Express email from the school, teacher communications, PTA Konstella events and announcements, and regularly check the School Website.

3.  Volunteer at the School & Join the PTA

All classrooms welcome parent volunteers in different ways. Check Konstella Sign-Ups for immediate volunteer opportunities, Join a Committee to be a part of an ongoing initiative, or check in with the VP of Volunteers, PTA Room Parent Committee, or your student’s teacher.

Another great way to help is become a member of the Edison Elementary PTA. You can also help by joining the School Site Council or the English Learner Advisory Committees (ELAC).

4.  Engage in Decision Making, Leadership, and Advocacy Efforts at Your School

Your input is critical. Attend PTA meetings where decisions will be made and discussed. Join Leadership as a Committee Chair or PTA Executive Board Member.  Join the School Site Council (SSC) to determine how district funds are spent at Edison.

5.  Know What Your Child is Expected to Learn and How He/She will be Assessed

Talk to your child’s teacher to understand how learning will work and be tested in the classroom. State testing takes place at different times in the year. Ask your teacher how you can best set-up your child for success.

6.  Take Advantage of Community Resources

Find out about after-school enrichment programs provided by the Alameda Education Foundation and other community partners. Partake in free programs offered by the local library and the school districts workshops throughout the school year.

7.  Donate to the PTA

The Edison PTA asks for family donations totaling a sum of $300 per student per year.  This is the amount that we have budgeted to fundraise in order to cover current program costs.  Providing the family donations at the beginning of the year helps to front-load the PTA budget for the school year, allowing us to release funds to programs as needed. The up-front donation is not mandatory, as there are many ways to give throughout the school year.
