
Earth Day is celebrated in the U.S. on April 22nd. It is a day whose mission is to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. Every year theGo Green Committee organizes a week of events aimed at helping our community contribute to this important mission.

2024 Earth Week Schedule
Mon 4/22 is Earth Day!
Reuse Cart (8:00-8:20)

Edison’s Reuse / Recycle Cart will be out on the blacktop on Monday and available near the office all week.

Get your hand stamped for bringing in any of the following items:

We’re celebrating Zero Waste Heroes and Super Sorters during the K-2 lunch period. Get a hand stamp for showing us your eco-friendly lunch habits!

What can you make out of an old t-shirt? Harness your crafty spirit and bring an upcycled t-shirt creation to Ms. Howell’s classroom for a special display of repurposed textiles.

Trashion Fashion Show

All grades are encouraged to participate in this school-wide fashion show in the courtyard. Wear an outfit that you’ve constructed using reused, thrifted, or upcycled materials. If your outfit won’t be worn again, be ready to deconstruct it and sort into landfill, compost, and recycling!

Garbage Car Build Session

Garbage car race is Friday, May 3, at 11:45. Students who would like to participate can come to Ms. Howell’s classroom (#2) for materials and engineering assistance on 4/25 and 4/30.

EARTH WEEK | SNEAKER & SHOE DRIVE
Back by popular demand! We’re teaming up with RoadRunner Sports and All Good Living to collect and recycle all types of used/worn shoes (except cleats and wheelie shoes). Bins available at Edison (front hallway), and a few homes, 4/22-26:

Ms. Boese and Mr. Foltz will highlight books and songs that support Earth Week themes with their classes.
GARBAGE CAR RACES - MAKE AT HOME

All interested Edison students can make Garbage Cars. Details provided during Earth Week, race will be on Friday, May 3.

Details:

Two categories: K-2 and 3-5
-
Students make a car out of ALL reused materials. Must be made from things that would have been thrown away or recycled. OK: glue, tape, paint. Not OK: Legos, old toys, ANY parts of RC cars, rubber bands.

Parents should let their child do the bulk of the design/work.
-
The wheel base may not exceed 9 inches.
-
Students can pick up materials and get engineering help at lunchtime on 4/25 and 4/30 in Ms. Howell’s classroom.
